Getting Started Guide

Welcome to NAI’s Getting Started Guide. Do you have a new NAI product? Are you unsure where or how to begin? This resource is dedicated to helping you get started using your new product. First, enter your part number in the search bar below to get a complete support package which includes manuals, software, and online resources. Next, please take a look at the “Things You’ll Need” section to make sure you have the tools necessary to get started with your new product.

Enter Your Part Number for a Support Package

NAI uses two part numbers to identify your product. A system level part number that is unique to your order and a generic board level part number. A valid NAI board level part number contains all of the information you need to understand what is inside of your specific motherboard configuration.

Retrieve a complete support package for your configuration at a system or board level by entering any of the following in the search bar below:

  • System level part # (Unique to your order)
  • Board level part #
  • Module code (ex: AD1, CB1, DT1)

A complete support package includes manuals, software, and online resources. If you still have questions or problems with setting up your system, please visit our technical support page.

NAI Labels

Enter a board level part number, a system level part number, or a function module code (ex: AD1, CB1, DT1) below.

Cables

To interface with your system, you will need to design and build cables customized for your application. This will require the unique pinout map for your configuration. The pinout map should have been provided to you during the sales process. If you do not have it please contact us for more information.

Connector Information

Each of NAI's Sensor Interface Units (SIUs) require mating connectors to interface with the product. This table shows the proper mating connectors with part numbers for the NIU1A, SIU31, SIU33, and SIU35. If your system is not listed or if you require more detail about the connector, please reference the specific hardware manual for your product.

NAI provides a front panel mating connector kit for our SIUs. If you would like an explanation of what is inside the kit, please contact us.

If you are using a convection-cooled card, male connector pins from Harwin are required to communicate to the front panel. This table shows the proper mating connectors for your I/O board or SBC. These connectors may be purchased seperately as part of a kit which includes the connector, backshell, pins and jackscrews please contact us to purchase this kit.

Front Panel Harwin Connectors Description Associated Products
Harwin P/N M80-5S25022M3 50-pin male connectors, 2 mm 68G5, 68ARM1, 75ARM1, 75G5
Harwin P/N M80-5114422. 44-pin male connectors, 2 mm 64ARM1, 64G5, 75PPC1, 75INT2

NAI's PCIe cards, the 79G5 and 79C3, may need an external ±12 VDC source to power specific simulation modules. In this case the user can connect the ±12 VDC source to either the front panel J1 connector or the J3 header connector of the 79C3.

The header for the 79C3 J3 connector is the Molex p/n: 53014-0310. NAI does not supply the cable mate for the J3 header. For more information on a header and help finding a mate please follow this link. For the 79G5, this table shows the proper connectors.

± 12 V Power (Inboard) Connector Date of Manufacture (DOM)

Optional Tools

If you would like to purchase one of our optional tools to assist you with getting started, please contact us.

Rear Transition Modules

If your specific application requires I/O signals that are on the front panel of a conduction-cooled card, NAI's Rear Transition Modules (RTMs) are designed to provide an interface to access the front I/O of the card from the rear of the card, mimicking the card front panel 44-pin pinouts and are optimized for the platform. To reference these pinouts please look at the product manual for your product to see which rear module I/O signals are being brought out to the front panel pins. The board pinouts in the manual will reflect the pinouts of the RTM. RTMs are also available for any boards with a convection cooled option (cPCI, VME, and VPX). These boards are typically used for development, but can be used for convection-cooled systems.

Breakout Boards

NAI's breakout boards provide industry standard connections to our card utility port. The breakout boards provide communication to a host machine via ethernet, serial, and USB 2.0. These boards assist with programming your application through a host machine without connecting through a custom cable.
