North Atlantic Industries Partners with DornerWorks to Expand Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) Capabilities with New TN1 Ethernet Module

BOHEMIA, NY – June 2025 -- North Atlantic Industries (NAI), a leading provider of rugged embedded computing solutions, announces the launch of the TN1 Ethernet Switched Endpoint (TSN-SE) Function Module. Designed for mission-critical aerospace, defense, and industrial applications, the TN1 module delivers deterministic, real-time Ethernet communications while seamlessly integrating with NAI’s Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®) ecosystem.

The TN1 Function Module is a Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) Ethernet endpoint, designed for high-precision, reliable connectivity in mission-critical systems. Leveraging the AMD Zynq™ UltraScale+ SoC and DornerWorks TSN FPGA IP (100% US developed), the TN1 enables deterministic, real-time Ethernet communication with minimal impact on host processor resources. The TN1 FPGA-based network adapter supports TSN and UDP protocols and is engineered to meet DO-178 and DO-254 safety certification objectives, ensuring dependable data routing in safety-critical applications.

As a MOSA-aligned Ethernet endpoint, TN1 ensures hardware, software, and firmware portability, making it compatible with RTOS-based and OS-independent implementations. The TN1, with DornerWorks TSN IP, supports Linux, DDC-I Deos, Wind River VxWorks 7, and VxWork 653 operating systems. Its FPGA-based configurability supports future network enhancements, while the built-in intelligent TSN Ethernet adapter enhances Ethernet stack management and significantly reduces application processor overhead – improving overall system efficiency.

With its flexible and scalable architecture, the TN1 module is ideal for avionics and flight control, autonomous, robotic, and unmanned vehicle systems, situational awareness, and data synchronization applications. As TSN-based digital backbones gain adoption across industries, the TN1 module delivers low-latency, high-precision and deterministic data transmission – making it a critical component for next-generation defense systems.

“The TN1 module exemplifies NAI’s commitment to delivering rugged, high-performance networking solutions for real-time, safety-critical environments,” said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing at North Atlantic Industries. “With TSN-based architecture and MOSA alignment, the TN1 module provides enhanced adaptability and seamless system integration, empowering our customers to future-proof their networking infrastructure.”

The TN1 function module is available in multiple configurations to support various TSN industry profiles, including IEEE 802.1DP for Aerospace. For more information, visit www.naii.com or contact NAI at 631-567-1100.
