North Atlantic Industries Expands COSA® Portfolio with New CIU3 Integration Unit – Accelerating Development and Deployment for Rugged Applications

BOHEMIA, NY – August 2025 -- North Atlantic Industries (NAI), a leader in rugged embedded computing solutions, announces the expansion of its Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®) portfolio with the new CIU3 Integration Unit. Designed to support both development and fully deployable systems, the CIU3 enables customers to build and field sophisticated, SWaP-optimized solutions faster and with reduced risk.

Compact, conduction-cooled, and engineered for demanding air, land, and sea environments, the CIU3 combines robust processing power, extensive connectivity, and a mix of built-in and configurable I/O functions. It features three COSA module slots for rapid customization to specific program requirements – all without starting from scratch.

Powered by an AMD/Xilinx® Zynq® UltraScale+™ SoC with a dual-core ARM®-A53 processor, the CIU3 delivers high-performance onboard processing to support applications, communications, and I/O management. Support for leading real-time operating systems, continuous background built-in-test (BIT), and optional features such as power hold-up and system synchronization further enhance reliability and field flexibility.

Targeted for high-volume, SWaP-C-sensitive applications, the CIU3 is priced at $19,000 to support scalable, cost-effective programs requiring rapid deployment and rugged performance.

By unifying prototyping platforms with deployable systems, the CIU3 streamlines integration and development – helping customers reduce program risk, accelerate timelines, and deliver mission-ready solutions more efficiently. It can be deployed as a Mission Processor Unit (MPU), Vehicle Management Unit (VMU) Data Concentrator Unit (DCU), or other critical system.

“With the CIU3, we’re giving customers a ready-to-use building block that seamlessly connects to the rest of the COSA® ecosystem,” said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing at North Atlantic Industries. “It turns proven design into deployable capability, helping our customers field mission-ready systems faster and with greater confidence.”
