Modules DT1 – DT6

NAI’s latest generation Discrete I/O Modules are offered in two versions: Standard Functionality (SF) modules (DT1, DT2, and DT3) and Enhanced Functionality (EF) modules (DT4, DT5, and DT6).  All the modules feature unparalleled programming flexibility, a wide range of operating characteristics, a unique design that eliminates the need for pull-up resistors or mechanical jumpers, and built-in operational functionality to provide Pulse/Frequency Period Measurements of the incoming signal (Input) and/or Pulse/Frequency arbitrary signal generation (Output). Used on our multifunction embedded boards, SBCs, and Rugged Systems, these modules can provide interfacing solutions for almost any stringent embedded or test application. During normal operations, continuous Background Built-in-Test (BIT) status is provided for channel health and operation feedback. The EF modules also provide the additional features listed below.

EF Modules DT4, DT5, and DT6

When the channels on the EF modules are programmed as inputs, the following measurement modes are available on the incoming signal:

  • Mode 0: Debounce filter
  • Mode 1: High time
  • Mode 2: Low time
  • Mode 3: Time-stamp of all rising edges
  • Mode 4: Time-stamp of all falling edges
  • Mode 5: Time-stamp of all edges
  • Mode 6: Count of total number of rising edges
  • Mode 7: Count of total number of falling edges
  • Mode 8: Count of total number of all edges
  • Mode 9: Period measurement from rising edge-to-rising edge
  • Mode 10: Period measurement of frequency

When the channels on the EF modules are programmed as outputs, the following PWM measurement modes are available:

  • Mode 11: Continuous pulse generation
  • Mode 12: Burst pulse generation (n-times)
  • Mode 13: Multichannel data pattern (single)
  • Mode 14: Multichannel data pattern.

DT1 and DT4 Discrete I/O Modules

Module Description
DT1 24-CH, Discrete I/O (0 to 60 VDC, 500 mA / Ch.)

 

Modules DT1 and DT4 (the enhanced version) feature 24 programmable channels for either input (voltage or contact sensing with programmable, on-module pull-up/pull down current sources), or output (current source, sink, or push-pull) up to 500 mA per channel from an applied, external 3 – 60 V VCC source. These modules can sense broken input connections and whether an input is shorted to +VCC or to ground. Other features include:

  • I/O voltage and output current read for improved diagnostics
  • Current share - multiple outputs connected in parallel to sink/source, up to 2A per bank
  • High inrush current load support (i.e., two #327 incandescent lamps in parallel)
  • Pulse/frequency/arbitrary pulse generation

DT2 and DT5 Discrete I/O Modules

Module Description
DT2 16-CH, Discrete/Switch I/O (+/-80 V, 500 mA / Ch.)

Modules DT2 and DT5 (the enhanced version) feature 16 independent, isolated, programmable channels that either can be used for input voltage measurements (±80 V), or as a bi-directional current switch (up to 500 mA per channel). When programmed as a switch with the switch closed, both the current through the switch and the voltage across the switch can be monitored. These modules include diode clamping on each channel. Clamping is useful for inductive loads, such as relays and short circuit protection.

DT3 and DT6 Discrete I/O Modules

Module Description
DT3 4-CH, Discrete/Switch I/O (+/-100 V, 3A / Ch.)

Modules DT3 and DT6 (the enhanced version) feature 4 independent, high current, isolated, programmable channels that either can be used for input voltage measurements (±100 V), or as a bi-directional current switch (up to 3 A per channel). When programmed as a switch with the switch closed, both the current through the switch and the voltage across the switch can be monitored. These modules include diode clamping on each channel. Clamping is useful for inductive loads, such as relays and short circuit protection.

Enhanced Modules DT4, DT5, and DT6

Enhanced modules DT4, DT5, and DT6 feature additional operational functions. When the channels are programmed as inputs, the following measurement modes are available on the incoming signal:
