Modules TL1 and TL2

NAI’s latest generation TTL/CMOS Modules are offered in two versions: TL1 and TL2. TL1 is our Standard Functionality (SF) module and TL2 is our Enhanced Functionality (EF) module. TL1 provides basic transceiver operation for 24 channels that are individually programmable for either input or output. It also includes continuous Background Built-in-Test (BIT) and programmable debounce circuitry with selectable time delay to eliminate false signals resulting from relay contact bounce. TL2 provides all of the features of TL1 and, in addition, provides the features listed below. Both modules are used on our multifunction embedded boards, SBCs, and Rugged Systems.

When programmed as inputs, status and/or interrupts can be enabled for each channel to indicate either transition on rising edge or transition on falling edge, as well as current state. Debounce circuits for each channel offer a selectable time delay. This eliminates false signals resulting from contact bounce commonly experienced with mechanical relays and switches. Each TTL/CMOS channel has an internal 100 kohm pull-down resistor. All inputs are continually scanned.

When programmed as outputs, the channels can be programmed to output the commanded state from either an internally generated 3.3 V power supply, or from an externally provided VCC supply (up to 5.5 V max).

Continuous Background Built-in-Test (BIT) status provides real-time channel health for mission-critical systems. This feature runs in the background and is transparent in normal operations. When the channels are programmed as inputs, a redundant, read-back circuit continually scans each channel to verify the input. When the channels are programmed as outputs, the readback circuit is compared with the commanded output logic.

EF Module TL2

When the TL2 channels module are programmed as inputs, the following measurement modes are available on the incoming signal:

  • Mode 0: Debounce filter
  • Mode 1: High time
  • Mode 2: Low time
  • Mode 3: Time-stamp of all rising edges
  • Mode 4: Time-stamp of all falling edges
  • Mode 5: Time-stamp of all edges
  • Mode 6: Count of total number of rising edges
  • Mode 7: Count of total number of falling edges
  • Mode 8: Count of total number of all edges
  • Mode 9: Period measurement from rising edge-to-rising edge
  • Mode 10: Period measurement of frequency

When the TL2 channels are programmed as outputs, the following PWM measurement modes are available:

  • Mode 11: Continuous pulse generation
  • Mode 12: Burst pulse generation (n-times)
  • Mode 13: Multi-channel data pattern (single)
  • Mode 14: Multi-channel data pattern
